Cavallaro's Cavalcade of Carnage I read 172 books in 2021. Meagan's debut novel, Songbirds and Stray Dogs was in my top ten (#4) that year. Here is what I wrote about it: "Perhaps the most underrated book on this list. Lucas absolutely blew me away with this one. I cannot wait to see what she does next."

Good news. The wait is over, and it was worth it. This will almost surely be the best short story collection that I read this year. There are two standout stories in the collection, "You Know What They Say About Karma, " and "Kittens." Both are bleak and undeniably powerful. They sort of read like mini Michael Haneke films, and he is the absolute best.

You now have two choices. Pre-order now, or circle July 14th on your calendar.
